What happens is that occassionaly an ISP updates the firmware on their modem racks and people who have previously had no problems have trouble connecting. The only thing you can try is to update the drivers. This is not a "common" thing for an ISP to do an update and suddenly become "incompatible".

It's an ISA modem, but it's PnP all the way -- no jumpers anywhere. The CD-ROM it comes with only has drivers and some useless speakerphone programs. Can anyone explain what's wrong? Its a AC97 Soft Data Fax Modem with Smart CP I have tried around 8 to 10 different drivers so far and the Fax modem receives either code 10 or incompatible modem codec. I'm using driveragent.com and have tried all their drivers but no help. It would be nice to have this working as a back up connection.

Poor Internet performance
I finally realized what myself and others had as a common denominator---the 3Com USB modem. I removed the modem drivers from my system, re-installed the 3Com 56K external modem using its serial drivers, and the problem went away. In short, the 3Com USB drivers are somehow incompatible with the Fury video drivers

I have a modem card that worked under 98 and NT but will not under 2000. It is detected as a Kortex 56000 card, with a Lucent Venus chipset, though the card says on it that it is a Magic Express card. When I try to install the driver, I get to the final screen and Windows reports that the driver is incompatible
